SUPERGROUPS R.I.P....

For the last few years we've been strongly tipping a number of high quality independant bands from around the world. These were bands that should have had a future and were more than good enough to have had top spots on the radio playlists and billboards of the world.

Bands form and split for a miriad of reasons, and when any promising band tells the world that they've had to hang up their boots it's allways tinged with alot of sadness.

Here are some of the former glories that graced our pages, many of whom we still consider as valued friends. They are bands that should have had worldwide exposure but unfortunately just did'nt get the support they needed at the time when they needed it most.

Some sites and links are still active so you can still hear what you missed and you can also read what we wrote about them too. If your lucky you may even stil be able to buy some albums and ep's from the remaining links. So here's some of the best Supergroups in the world that are sadly live no more...OK, you can get your hankies out now and begin to weep as you repeatedly ask yourself "why..? why..? WHY !!?..."

 From Dublin, Ireland

......More overpowering vocals - the kind of which will cause most label managers to have nightmares if they don't manage to sign them- are to be found bursting out of the mouth of Anna Devine, the lead vocalist of Little Nightmare. A debut ep in 2007 marked them out for special interest with a number of noteworthy tours and gigs being played throughout the last eighteen months. Their sound has been often been compared to...er, 'Eminefinevence', at times that may be the case - as Anna's vocals certainly match and outdo any current female vocalist worldwide with that awesome set of pipes, but musicaly it seems more like the 'Effinirrelevant' sound has been subjected to a nuclear holocaust as the little nightmare sound simply disintegrates and blows them away. If you would like to experiance the sound of 'Elpthesepeopleareevenbetterthanusance' being subjected to few hundred megatonnes of sonic nuclear annihilation and liberation, or perhaps if you are a record executive and would like to have alot of nightmares once they turn your offers down and sign a much better deal elswhere, then strap yourself in very tightly, turn up the volume on your speakers and get ready for the force of the shockwaves to hit you at........

*update* The bands final gig was on 20/12/07 but new 'nightmares' are to arise from the band in the form of various new artistic projects and solo works throughout 2009. RIP to...

  From Liverpool, England.

Liverpool... A name synonymous with the birth of the British Beat movement and the Beatles, it's history has been filled with many influences from all corners of the globe in the last milenium and it is often referred to as a Dublin Suberb on both sides of the Irish sea . In fact, when the Beat movement and 'Northern soul' started to take hold in the sixties there was alot of two way trafficing of influences, Liverpool had the famous Cavern Club birthing many of the era's beat bands, while Dublin had the 'Tara Telephone ' movement founded by Peter Fallon ( later of T-Rex and John Lennon's Yoko Ono band) and Eamon Carr (later of Horslips -on Rock Cornerstone one) whose publications were sought out by many of both cities beat poets and musicians (John Lennon even submitted a few of his works throughout the sixties). When the Beatles exploded into the world of music and began to be persued by hordes of screaming girls with scenes that hadn't been seen on earth since the days of King David (arguably the worlds first superstar celebrity figure in 1000AD) Liverpool became the very centre of attention in the world of music. But once the Beetles split it seemed that a musical vacum appeared over the city and many talented musicians were left out in the cold purely because they were Liverpudlian's but not the Beatles. ( A similar story affected Dublin in the late eighties and nineties in the vacume left by U2 once America became their main home). Let's face it, if you say youre in a band from Liverpool no one wants to take you seriously in the UK...But things are looking up for the cities bands. New festivals have sprung up over the last 24 months to highlight the cities talents, abilities and creativities...and it is among these new bands that we discovered the best set of songwriters and composers to come out of Liverpool for the last forty years. Their name is The Majority and they have written some of the best songs to have emmerged from the UK in the last eighteen months with lyrics that show a much deeper level of maturity and understanding than ever expected from such a young band. It takes years of hardships and life experiance for most people to be able to write and think with such a depth - which itself can only be a testament to the bands abilities, integrity and experiance.Liverpool can be taken seriously by the music industry again and The Majority are the proof of it. If you do just one thing over the next few months make sure it's buying their new single and album due out from August 08...they're not just the best Liverpool band touring and recording at the moment, but the best from England and the whole of the UK. WHATEVER YOU DO - DON'T MISS THEM ! These moving songs and lyrics will wrap themselves around every fibre of your being and again there's a depth of character here thats almost unheard of in much of the music world, so see and hear it all for yourself on the jukebox below and on their MySpace page.. Sooner or Later you'll wish you'd bought the album... .

*The majority have ceased touring as a band but are still active on the MySpace page where, if youre lucky, you still may be able to find their album and plenty of extras! Hopefully -if enough people buy the album- someone might even be able to talk them into reforming and touring again!! Though I dare say that there'll be plenty of new ventures to look forward to by all the former members soon. For the meantime, RIP for one of Liverpools best ever.

From Montreal, Canada...

Another Montreal band gaining enormous interest on their home ground is the outstanding 'Delson Drive' .

Their rich rock sound is full of the thrashing guitars and thumping new wave rock beats that have found an enormous fan base in the world of rock and pop over the last decade - must notably on the European side of the pond through bands like 'Busted' and even McFly. But Delson Drive is no teenrock band, they're a fully fledged four piece with fully matured levels of tostesterone and an ever maturing sound which is set to invade the rest of the english and french speaking world. Formed in 2003 they have been consistently touring, writing and recording scince their inception with an ever increasing multi - national fanbase.Their debut album 'A penny for a ride' was released in 2006 on their own label with a new release due sometime this year.Whatever you do, don't be fooled by the use of the 'thrashing guitar' terminology because Delson Drive actualy 'play' those thrashing sounds very, very well and have used some well crafted and brilliantly thought out riffs in their ever expanding catologue of sound. To see and hear for yourself click here...

 * Delson Drive have scince disbanded as a group while they persue other

avenues in their careers but their albums are stil available via the link and

we will update fans on future projects of band members as they arise.

From Rosyth, Scotland

Our next supergroup has been repeatedly tipped by a number of national and international music critics, papers and magazines as Scotlands best new band of the millenium ever scince we spotted them over a year ago on their fellow Moonfruit site (you may well have noticed them on our Potential Supergroup page over the past year). Annoyingly, an opportunity for mass media exposure at the 2007 T in the Park festival denied the band of their well earned international spotlight when Al Gore decided to hold his own international music event on the same day! Despite the disappointment , the boys of The Draymin have continued to tour continuosly and are in the process of recording and releasing what promises to be another excellent set of songs on their forthcoming ep. 2008 still sees The Draymin as our top pick of all the upcoming bands from Scotland and their comitment and drive for making top quality rock and pop will no doubt see them as Scotlands top live act for many years to come...and yep!...we've added those excellent two Draymin tasters here all over again, 'I'm There' (taster 1) and 'Don't Fade Away'(taster 2). To hear more on the new Scottish giants visit the following links. We've issued a 'caution due to the occaisional 'moon' and four lettered word....

UPDATE.... Most Draymin fans will already know this, but 2009 started out without the band at the forefront of Scottish -and world- rock. The Draymin played their last gig to a packed house on the 27th December 2008 and Fraser (the voice of the band) departed for a career in the offshore oil industry soon after. The remaining members jointly decided that without Frasers unique voice at the helm the Draymin should put into port permanently...the result being that one of the most favoured flagships of Scottish rock is no more. Like many fans and music critics throughout the UK and beyond, we were gutted and have been grieving ever scince (which is why it's taken us nearly a month to write the update). Their MySpace site is still ongoing and if you're very lucky you may still be able to order one of their 18 track CD's. Like many, we will be eagerly awaiting for a day when Fraser may return (wether on leave or permanently) and are praying for a future reunion of the band.

We wish all the Draymin boys the very, very best for the future.

SEPTEMBER UPDATE FOR 2009 ...THE DRAYMIN HAVE RISEN!!! Fraser has

escaped from the perils of the North Sea and the Draymin are reformed.

The boys will be releasing an ep in December and are booking dates

from December onwards ...YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAH!!!

 From Dublin, Ireland..

Another Dublin musician with his roots tied to the busking community and trained in the hard knocks of life on the streets with no income options apart from his voice is James O'Toole of Aortal. It was that voice alone which carried him on a seven year tour of the world with just a guitar as luggage taking him from Dublin to India, South Africa, and nearly every town in between before finaly returning to the streets of Dublin to set up the classic rock band Aortal. The brief but exceptional history of the band so far has at times closely resembled a script from Spinal Tap with some band members (and especialy drummers,) tending to either spontaniously combust and vanish without warning or get themselves arrested and thrown into jail for the most puzzling of reasons...so in order not to tempt fate we decided not to reveal the names of the other current members of the band ( sorry Connor and Jay ...oops!). In spite of the many set backs Aortal are set to be a permanent fixture of Irelands top rock set and have already successfuly stunned many audiences with a strong array of outstanding performances and songs overflowing with insight and exceptional talent in every area of songwriting and delivery. As you'll soon discover, these songs have already marked out the vocals of James O'Toole's as being legendary....We've included their video debut 'In Light' with a few more titles to set your bodily seratonin levels ablaze via their MySpace profile with an album due for release at any moment. See and hear for yourself at......

James has temporarily (we hope) hung up his Aortal boots in favour of an active political and sociological career designed to pour some well earned shame on Irelands Fiana Fail government. So hopefully once the corruption, apathy and indifference has been evicted from the Dail (Irish parliament) he will be able to get back to some more serious music!!
