Supergroups 1.7

What do you do if you're possibly one of the best guitarists of your particular generation, have played in and helped to form some of the loudest brain crushing, jazzed and funked up rock and punk bands within a thousand miles of Cork City , are tinkering with the idea of a music degree and someone gives you a laptop for Christmas..?

Well how about 'something completely different?' An artistic obsession with the subterainean sights and sounds of large aquatic mammals in the quieter though not quite so silent world of the ocean depths led one 'Lemon sole' to bring those sounds to life with his own semi electronic version of 'super chillout'.As one of Corks best underground lead guitarists with bands such as Jezery and the avant guard Elk, Shane O'Sullivan is currently competing with Armoured Bears 'Anto' for the title of 'Most ammount of bands to play in and be part of at the same time' and his recent solo project entitled 'Quiet Pilot' will subtely submerge you into a whole new world of subterrainean sounds as an immense compositional contrast to his usual multi decibeled lead mastery.. Cork superstar Skully has a new wave of musical 'professors' becoming masters of trance, chillout and electronic sound right on his very doorstep and they're all creating some epic masterpieces.

These softer , reflective and experimental musical pieces all developed over the past year have a special inspirational edge and professional quality despite seemingly having just been 'knocked up on a lap top'. Whatever course this 'Quiet Pilot' takes with his pending degree one can be certain it will be somewhere deep in the cutting edge of music creation.

You can put your scuba gear on and dive in to find Corks next generation of gifted sound wizardry jamming with giant Panda's while meandering at a gentle whale's pace here...

Or blow your brains apart with the high octaned jazz rock of Jezery here...

and submit any remaining cells to the wayward punk pop of Elk here... we issued a yellow triangle for Elk for being noisy enough to scare small children...

Another upcoming Cork genius of electronica worth keeping an eye out for is the artist formerly known as Moses Malone. His current tracks were turning heads in local and national newspapers scince he was fifeteen. Two years on and his creative flair and prowess is still showing a highly professional promise and potential. 'Moses' (who now goes by the name of Eoin Walsh) has fostered a deep interest in the more reknowned and elite masters of jazz , rock and funk..and It was a surprise to find someone so young with such a detailed interest and knowledge in the likes of 'Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, George Benson, Pink Floyd AND Charlie Don't Surf!' Like a young Glen Hansard this young musical genius is showing a musical wisdom well beyond his years ...he also tends to swear as much as Glen which is why we added a yellow triangle... he can also wield a trumpet and electric guitar with a similar flair to Quiet Pilot too and is regularly doing so in the Cork funk rock and hip hop band The Impressionists.

For a next generation chilled electronic and almost 'Mike Oldfield' styled musical genius try...

And for the slighlty more risque up front funk rock of 'The Impressionists' ...

Exceptional electronica and trance is found colliding at high speed with 'Channel Ones' intense infusion of Rock to cause the kind of 'creative' reaction that scientists have spent billions of Euros trying to recreate the Hoggs Boson effect with under the Swiss alps. Rhythms and purpose (which, by a strange coincidence just happens to be the title of their new ep) fly round this musical experiment at twice the speed of light to gleefully shatter the atoms of predictability ...and there's no black holes in the Channel One sound, although there is a long overdue debut album awaiting release . Explore the Channel One musical magic here...

The next supergroup gleefully mastering trance, dance and rock in one swift musical movement is Kilkenny band 'Jilted'.

Kevin Brodericks big synths sweep overpoweringly throughout some explicit guitar riffs courtousy of Broderick and Ciaran Wood . The real multi beat drumming of David Crilly give the big trance moves an excessive edge over the 'electro' only sound - especialy when played live -and the suductively dreaming vocals of Meave Murphy weave magicaly throughout these intoxicating tunes. Make no mistake, if Jilted can hold their current course then they will be big stadium fillers in the not too distant future so watch this space...or should we say theirs . If you want to know just how big then you better wire up your best sound system, set the volume to ouch, click the link to their space, stand well back and get instantly overpowered by the sound waves...

From Trance Rock to Dance Rock...

About seven hundred years ago the battered spanish remnents of Iberia (-thats the Melisian remnant left behind that didn't sail over to invede Ireland in 2000bC -)were having a bit of an extended losing streak while quarreling with their Moorish neighbours. As often happens when hope is all but gone, they got down on their knees, pleaded and begged god for help- and just to prove that they meant buisness they gathered all their gold and siver together to make a bell to give to Jesus' adopted dad Joseph in the hope that he'd put in a good word and that god might save them from even more utter defeats. Strangely enough, the winds of change suddenly did switch direction and the Moors suddenly found themselves begging god for the fastest ferry off the Iberian peninsula! To the Spanish (and many military strategists ) it was a miracle and the bell was held in high esteem by the Spanish ever scince . A few hundred years later when they sent their military muscle on a gold hunting spree to the Americas they took that special bell with them (...just in case they ended up needing another miracle...) and it now lays in a small church in New Mexico as the oldest bell on the whole continent. When a blind man began to hear the bell ringing all by itself while praying in the church a few decades ago another miracle was said to have occured..in that his sight was restored and he could see perfectly whenever the bell rang (unfortunately it only ever seemed to happen when he was in the church and once the bell stopped so did his vision). The bell was again hailed as being truly miraculous. It became the America's main point of religious pilgrimage and was even in part a source of inspiration for a certain Stuart Granger film where he played a man shown what the world would be like had he never been born -thanks to the help of an incompetent angel.

Well the magic of the miracle bell has now crossed the atlantic to miraculously open the ears of the tone deaf whenever it's music rings out around Naas Na Ri (Naas of the kings). Yep, Ireland has it's own Miracle Bell that has, for the last few years, been creating signs and wonders on the musical front through some of the most slap bang awesome tracks to have ever appeared on an indie label. The label is called Defunked Music ...which is all quite ironic as far as we're concerned as (along with the Kill City Defectors in Supergroups 1.2) they are probably one of the funkiest bands in the whole country. So if you want to find a real Miracle Bell worth travelling over continents for, you'd better go here and just feel the temperature rise while that magic rings out to re open your ears!....

You might have noticed them on our 09Valentine playlist page singing Hallucinagenic
