OH TO BE AN AUTHOR...
STOP DREAMING... START DOING...
Towards the end of 1990 , and for a couple of years after, my imagination conspired to overwhelm me into writing an absolutely amazing and compelling trilogy chronicling the life of three generations of the fictional Rabine family . It followed them through eighty years of immense international upheaval in the not so distant future ( and - oh whoops - half of it's at the point of being played out for real !).
There is this big copyrighted box in my loft full of it, it has all the research from mining minerals on gas giants, to how to grow bananas on olympus mons, even partial film scripts, storyboards and soundtrack details. The last fifty minutes of the 'book three Eyes of Mars' film version would have had you squeeling on the edge of your seat, mesmerised and paralised in a state of hightened tension. As a little taster, ten of those fifty minutes involved a critical space walk to fix a life support system on a crippled space ship on a slow descending orbit round earth. As the shadow of the crippled molten moon passes over (long story, but don't smoke cigarettes on gas giants during oxyginated meteor showers)you can clearly see in the big screen backdrop on earth, a slow 'tit for tat' nuclear escalation. The communicators of the characters and places with whom the trilogy had shared an intimate path go to a sudden static hiss one by one. As we're blinded by the flashes, shocked and shaken by intense sound of the shockwaves, we become lost in the realism as ,one by one, all those familiar lights on the earth below go out to be replaced by the toxic smoke stacks of nuclear incineration. The backdrop of familiar geographic landscapes begins to become altered as intense megastorms, tsunamis, earthquakes and firestorms slowly encircle the globe .Throughout these scenes the spine chilling and haunting Kate Bush song 'Hello Earth' becomes intertwined along with flashbacks and moving childhood images from our grief stricken heroine's past.
If you're one of those blokes who cried in the cinema at the end of 'The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy' then what happens next will leave you absolutely unconsolable and plunge you into a deep state of shock .The problem is,you can only watch the stunning photography, be deafened by the sound ,book tickets for the film, get the goodie bag and read the full book if your seat is microscopicaly situated right inside my head (....or hiding in my loft). If I'd actualy written the WHOLE book back then and submitted it for publishing and film, then I would have been a millionare by now (either that or I would've been shot by someone, sent to guantanamo or very broke and my publisher rich).
But it's not just an interesting plot and a bit of dramatic action that makes a brilliant novel,it's the way characters unfold into genuine, believable people in a way which enables you to understand and empathise with them. It's the way that you paint a scene with words which will draw people right into that internal chair in your imagination to see your virtual landscape as a reality.Yet to do that, even the best novelists in the world need guidance from time to time, if only to make sure that their own ego's are not leading them astray into cloud cuckoo land. So how do you brush up on your writing skills and turn that idea of yours into the next bestseller? A creative writing course (-if you're serious about getting that novel in front of the publishers in a format they will accept-) can actualy be a major stepping stone in a professional writing career and many schools and Universities worldwide have branded their own versions.Yet there is one bit of software that stands out from all the others as it has its very own unique claim to Britains literary heritage... The softwares editor is non other than the great great grandaughter of Charles Dickens himself (and there aren't many of those in the world!).Writing a novel can hold as many twists and turns as the finished product and that makes this the perfect bit of software for any new novelist. Adapted from, and inclusive of part of the UK University of East Anglia's creative writing course, Newnovelist is an ideal product to kickstart a career in writing. At $54.99US (and you'll never find a UK university based course that cheap)it is certainly value for money, with secure multi payment options via clickbank click on the link to see for yourself.
